Set the (Christmas) Table
21 December 2015
Are you ready for Christmas day festivities? After all the excitement Christmas morning you’d think the day would be over, but alas, Christmas dinner awaits! Friends and family gather to partake in Christmas fare and eat, drink, and are merry. Being the planners that you are we’re sure you’ve planned or helped plan the Christmas menu by now and while that’s all set, there are still a few key things that still need to be decided. Cocktails? Check. Schedule of events? Check. Table decor? Errr? Not to worry we have a few tips and tricks that will have your table dressed to the nines without you having to go out. Yep, you heard that right. Stay home, read our list, gather the materials, and get ready-set-go.
Tip 1: Grab some gold. No table is complete without a touch of gold. Grab those chargers you have stored away and put them to good use. And while you’re at it, the candlesticks too. Don’t have much of that around? Add some gold ribbon, tulle, or wrapping paper to the table. One year we used a circle punch and some gold paper and stamped out tons of shiny circles to add a touch of gold to the tablescape. You don’t want to go overboard with it, but in our opinion, you can never have too much gold.
Tip 2: Choose a color scheme. Now that you’ve gotten your hints of gold together pick a color scheme that you like and run with it. Is it pink? Grab those ornament bulbs off the tree, add some pink ribbon, napkins, glassware. Not enough color for you? Try adding in different tones of the same color or add in a complimentary color! Pink goes well with lots of colors – pink and red, pink and turquoise, pink and gold.
Tip 3: Bring the outdoors in. We’ve heard it’s been unseasonably warm most places so far this winter. May we suggest heading outside and picking up some pinecones and evergreen branches. If you or your significant other is really handy you can DIY these tree chargers. Instant holiday warmth added to your table with that trick.
Some other things you may want to add are unscented white candles. Don’t want to fuss with a flame? Try the Luminara candles. They’re surprisingly beautiful! Also, make sure to add festive placecards. Your guests will feel extra special that you set a place just for them.
