In our attempt to achieve #noroomwithoutcolor we’ve shown you how to add color to various rooms in your home – kitchen, dining room, office, bedroom – but we haven’t tackled the biggest one of them all, your living room. Living rooms tend to take up the most space in a home and can seem overwhelming to decorate. They usually require the most furniture and accessories and likely end up costing the most to decorate. We know this all sounds daunting, but once you’ve got the large furniture picked out here’s our guide to adding color to your most-lived in space.
Paint the door: You’ve decided to go neutral with the walls, but still want to add color elsewhere. Painting the door will add that pop of color and is a fairly inexpensive way to do it! We suggest a semi-gloss finish on it in a bold color.
Upholstery: If you’re going with a neutral color for the couch, decide on a colorful fabric for a side chair. We love the coral chair in the image above.
Colorful Accessories: Add colorful vases, books, and figurines. These add dimension and clearly showcase your unique style. Our favorite places to source these items are Etsy, Anthropologie, Furbish, and local antique shops (they always have the best deals).
Plants: There are tons of benefits other than color for adding plants to your space, so go ahead, buy that fiddle leaf fig tree you’ve been seeing in every bloggers’ home. Your health will thank you.
Pillows: One can never have enough pillow covers. We suggest you buy a set seasonally from affordable places like Etsy to keep your couch colorful and fresh!
Coasters: These come in handy when hosting parties, but are a must have for every day as well. We love this gilded edge agate set from Anthro.
Gallery Wall Artwork: Pick a few of your favorite colorful prints and photos and create a gallery wall. This is the perfect way to showcase meaningful quotes, travel photos, and all things pretty and colorful.
Area Rug: We’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but we firmly believe that a good, colorful area rug can take your room from bland to grand. With so many options at your fingertips, the hardest part will be deciding which one to go with.
We hope this has inspired you to add a little color to your world in the New Year! Have questions about decorating with color? Ask us anything!
