Disney Comes to Life

25 April 2016

Usually, it is a story as old as time which begins with ‘Once upon a time” and ends with, “They lived happily ever after.” Or at least that’s how the typical Disney stories tend to go. This spring/summer, Disney is taking a handful of their classic animated films and bringing them back-to-life on the big screen. Yep, Disney lovers can look forward to The Jungle Book (currently in theaters!), Alice in Wonderland 2, and Pete’s Dragon all reappearing in a new form on the silver screen. Movie goers can note that Beauty and the Beast (starring Emma Watson as Belle) as well as The Little Mermaid (starring Chloe Grace Mortez as Ariel) are also being worked into live-action feature films set to make an appearance within the next few years. The growing demand to turn Disney’s classic animated films into live-action movies has the hype just beginning for this budding Disney genre. True, Disney gave us a taste last spring with the remake of Cinderella, but that only left mouse-ear movie goers hungry for more. And more movie magic we shall get.

The Jungle Book hit theaters April 15th and the trailer looks visually stunning. The movie is part CGI and part live-action. Of course, the little orphan jungle boy is the only human character you’ll see on the screen, but look for talking tigers, bears, wolves, monkeys, snakes…oh my and so many more creatures. The Jungle Book is a tale about an orphan boy who is raised by wolves in the jungle who befriends a bear, a panther, and other exotic creatures. Of course, a dangerous tiger villain & the possibility of the encroaching human civilization spins the tale that the jungle can be a scary place for a small boy.

Hurry up, you don’t want to be late for this very important movie date. Alice Through the Looking Glass is set to be in theaters May 27th. In the sequel, there is no time for tea. Alice returns to Wonderland to go back in time and save the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) and the magical land. Alice must find and face Time which is indeed a ‘He’ through twist, turns, and riddles to restore the well-being of the land’s characters before time runs out. We told you, you don’t want to be late for this one!

Growing up, you maybe familiar with a six-year-old boy called Pete and his dragon named Elliot in the cartoon version of Pete’s Dragon  (created back in 1977). However, August 12th the live-action Pete’s Dragon comes to life on the big screen in a big way. Naturally, trouble follows when Pete is found living alone in a forest and claiming his best friend/dragon, Elliot was his sole reason for his survival. You’ll just have to stay tuned to see how the small fishing town adopts Pete and comes to terms with Elliot’s existence.

We are so excited to see all of these Disney adventures, characters, plot twists, and yes, villains make it to the big screen that we are already planning what popcorn to pop. Truly, there is nothing greater than getting to relive your favorite childhood movies in a new and exciting way.

Hurry up Disney we are waiting!
